With the nationalization of Carmichael College, the one and only educational institution in Rangpur, on 01 January 1963, the number of seats for students got limited. This time, students fell into a trouble as there was no other college in the area. The necessity of a college for the urge of students’ demand was felt and with Professor Emaz Uddin’s earnest efforts, Professor Fulae Hossain, DC O. M. Karni, ADC Abdus Sattar, District Education Officer Tahmedur Rahman (T. Rahman), Advocate Abul Khan, Amin Hossain, Abu Salek, Abul Hossain, Moin Uddin Sarkar MP and many other wealthy persons donated money and land to help to establish a college. Hereafter, the college was established on 25 July 1963. Appointing Professor Emaz Uddin Principal, and Professor Fulae Hossain Vice-Principal, the college was launched as a night college at Koilash Ranjan High School and as a day college at the Zamindarbari (Kalidham) of Ram Babu. The college was affiliated to Rajshahi University from its inception to 1992. There was permission to open only IA class at the beginning but BA class was launched in 1965 on the basis of the standard of education of the college. The college was shifted to its own building in 1967. A hostel for boy students was opened in the Zamindarbari of Kalidham which had been operated as a day college. In 1970, the University of Rajshahi permitted to open B.Sc. The active and spontaneous participation and sacrifice of the people of Rangpur in the Great War of Liberation of 1971 are historically recognized both home and abroad. Moslem Uddin, a student of the college, was martyred in the War of Liberation. The hostel was named after the martyr Moslem Uddin in honour of his memory. The college was nationalized on 01 November 1984. After nationalization, the number of students of the college has increased more than before. Due to the increasing number of students, shortage of classrooms was felt and then new buildings were erected. The college has been affiliated to National University in 1993. Hostels have been gradually built for students’ accommodation. Associations like Rover Scout, Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC), voluntary blood donors’ association ‘Bandhon’ financed by the college, and so on have been providing the students with ample facilities and humanitarian services. Permission to open Honours Course was given by the University from the session 1997-1998. HSC, Degree (Pass) Course and Honours Course on 13 subjects are now in operation in the college.
