The History of Art was one of the compulsory theoretical subjects when the theory was introduced in the then East Pakistan college of Arts and Crafts (Now Faculty of Fine Art) in 1963. The other subjects included were sociology and English. The teachers were Mr. Abdul Matin Sarker (History of Art), Mr. Bulbon Osman (Sociology), Mr. Shawkat Ali (English). Later Dr. Najma Khan Mojlish and Dr. Syed Azijul (Bangli) joined as a teacher (History of Art) With these theory subjects the Art History department was created in 1991.
