Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College is an educational establishment that is located at Sylhet. On 01 January, 1962, it was first put into operation.
Sylhet is well-known for housing the shrine of revered saint Hazrat Shahjalal (R.). The foundation of a public hospital in the city’s center in 1936, which was later improved to care for the British and allies fighting on the Burma front in World War II, offered modern medicine to the local population. In order to create Licentiate of Medical Faculty (LMF) doctors, the hospital underwent additional renovations and expansion in 1948. This allowed it to be transformed into a medical school with the necessary faculty and housing.

The medical college was upgraded from a medical school to a medical college, and as a result, a larger space for housing the various departments as well as a quieter and congenial environment became evident. The bed capacity was increased to 300. The college was initially started with 27 students and was affiliated to the faculty of Medicine of Dhaka University. This led to the decision to choose the current location in the western part of the city, where the college was eventually moved in 1969 and the terrible strength was enhanced.
The college was renamed “Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College” in 1986 in honor of the late General MAG Osmani, a hero of the liberation fight. Since that time, the college has steadily advanced, and over time, it was realized that the college was prepared for greater honors for what it had already accomplished in the years since its founding, particularly in light of the fact that the college once shared recognition with other medical colleges in the subcontinent from the GMC until its derac recognition in 1972. The General Medical Council of the United Kingdom granted an unrestricted recognition to the collage in January 1993. We are confident that our students will keep striving to uphold the unique honor bestowed upon us and to further
