Government-run Sir Salimullah Medical College is a medical school in Bangladesh. It is situated in Dhaka’s historic district. It is associated with Dhaka University. The first hospital in Bangladesh is Mitford Hospital, and Sir Salimullah Medical College is the top medical school there. 

On May 1, 1858, Mitford Hospital began its adventure. This was the first general hospital in the eastern region of Bengal, which was still under British authority. Sir Robert Mitford, a long-serving judge of the Provincial Court of Appeal and Collector of Dhaka, is honored by having his hospital bear his name. 

Dhaka Medical School began its journey on July 1st, 1875. Stone laid for the foundation on April 2, 1887. 

Dhaka Medical School began its journey on July 1st, 1875. W.R. Larminie, Commissioner of the Dhaka Division, set the cornerstone of a new school building on April 2, 1887. On September 22, 1889, Sir SC Bayley, the Lt Governor of Bengal, officially opened it. Nawab Sir Salimullah provided funds in 1903 to create maternity and female eye care organizations. In 1962, Dhaka Medical School became a medical college with the name Mitford Medical College. To honor the accomplishments of the Nawabs, the college was renamed Sir Salimullah Medical College in 1963 after Nawab Sir Salimullah (1871–1915).

Condensed courses for the MBBS degree were available from 1963 to 1972.

The first batch of MBBS students entered in 1973 after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, upgraded it to a full-fledged medical institution in 1972.
