In 2011, Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College was founded. It bears Syed Nazrul Islam’s name, who served as Bangladesh’s first acting president.
To enhance the quality of healthcare provided in the nation, the Bangladeshi government approved the establishment of 4 medical colleges in the 2010–2011 academic year at Jessore, Satkhira, Kishoreganj, and Kushtia. The project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College’s budget, estimated at Tk 5.45 billion, has been approved. The project included building a six-story hospital, a five-story college for academics, a training center for nurses, dorms for intern doctors and staff nurses, a mosque, an auditorium, principal and director residences, the installation of a gym, and the purchase of equipment, two ambulances, one microbus, and furniture with the money.
