Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College is an educational establishment that is located at Dhaka. On 06 May, 2006, it was first put into operation.
The 14th government medical college in Bangladesh was founded in 2006 and is called Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College (ShSMC). Its location in the northwest of Dhaka, next to the National Parliament House, offers a distinctive architectural campus and a top-notch academic environment. In addition to a long history of providing medical services, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital is honored to have supported other medical institutions in their establishment and growth. We are very committed to offering top-notch medical education, first-rate training, and top-notch research through distinguished and knowledgeable instructors.
As Ayub Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital was founded in 1963 for outdoor services in East Pakistan. It had pathological and radiological support systems. This healthcare provider then expanded its service to include indoor accommodations, first with 5 beds and later with 25 beds.
The hospital was renamed Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital in honor of Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy, the living son of democracy, following the country’s liberation from Pakistan in 1971. The National Assembly Hall of Bangladesh, one of the best buildings in the world, was also designed by renowned architect Louis I. Kahn, who also created this hospital’s magnificent architectural splendor. The hospital was then steadily expanded in many ways to serve as a general hospital, extending services to this region as well as acting as a central referral facility for the entirety of Bangladesh, particularly the area of northern and western Bangladesh.
The Bangladeshi government made the decision to build this medical college on this campus and upgrade Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital to a Medical College Hospital on September 5, 2005, feeling the necessity to significantly broaden the scope of undergraduate medical education. As a result, its academic programs began on May 6, 2006, with 100 freshmen. Sheikh Hasina, the honorable prime minister of the people’s republic of Bangladesh, quickly erected the colleges’ buildings, including the hostels, and she officially opened them on January 17, 2012. A nursing institute is now being developed next to the site.
