Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) is an educational establishment that is located at Alurtol Road Sylhet. Its Educational Institute Identification Number or EIIN, is 136607. On 02 November, 2006, it was first put into operation. The alternative name for Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) is সিলেট কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় (SAU).

Formally the Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) has started its formal function on 2 November 2006 following the issuance of a notification by the Government as per requirement of the “Sylhet Agricultural University Act 2006” which was passed in the National Parliament on 3 October 2006. In fact, the faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science has come into being through the up gradation of Sylhet Government Veterinary College (SGVC). The SGVC was founded in 1995 and had been functioning as “School of Life Sciences” under Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet Bangladesh.
Sylhet Government Veterinary College, at present the Faculty of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Science has so far produced thousands of graduates. Graduates of this university have gone on to careers or research in livestock production, agricultural sub-systems, up gradation, treatment, and the agro-based economy. They are involved in different national and international services ranging from the civil service to the RVFC (Remount Veterinary and Farm Core). Currently, about 2000 undergraduate and 50 internship students are enrolled at the university.
The main goal of SAU is to improve the quality and standard of higher agricultural education and to produce first-rate agriculturists, agricultural scientists, and technologists to meet the needs of agricultural development in Bangladesh.
