North Bengal Medical College is an educational establishment that is located at Sirajganj. On 01 January, 2000, it was first put into operation.
The first private medical college in Bangladesh’s northern region, North Bengal Medical College opened its doors in 2000 with approval from the People’s Republic of Bangladesh government. The College is situated on 3.5 acres of land in the district town of Sirajganj, on the banks of the river Jamuna.
Prof. M. A. Matin, the late founder of this medical college, was well-known in Bangladesh. In addition to being a highly regarded ophthalmologist, he served as president of the Bangladesh Medical Association, Bangladesh College of Physician and Surgeon, and the Ophthalmic Society of Bangladesh. Considering the inadequate Medicare facilities in the northern region of Bangladesh, Professor M.A. Matin envisioned a medical college in his hometown of Sirajganj. Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and late Professor Dr. Tashmina Matin was the founding principal of North Bengal Medical College. She held the position of principal of this medical college until her death. This medical institution was made one of the greatest in the northern portion of the country because to her tireless work and those of the college’s founder, Prof. Dr. M.A. Matin.
A college affiliated with Rajshahi Medical University is North Bengal Medical College. The university’s medical faculty has modified its MBBS curriculum. The Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council has granted this college recognition (BM&DC). The MBBS program at North Bengal Medical College is a 5-year program. After graduation, all graduates must complete a one-year internship. More than 500 young adults who studied medicine at NBMC are now practicing as graduate and postgraduate doctors both domestically and overseas.
