Ibrahim Medical College is an educational establishment that is located at .
Prof. Mohammad Ibrahim has made nothing less than a phenomenonal contribution to the area of medicine in general and diabetes in particular. He was an accomplished doctor as well as a skilled teacher, organizer, and social reformer. The Diabetic Association of Pakistan and, later, Bangladesh were founded by Prof. Ibrahim. A WHO Collaborating Centre on Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders, the only one of its kind in Asia, was established at Shahbagh by his initiative from the Diabetic Association’s small outpatient clinic at Segunbagicha. The arduous trip taken by BIRDEM from Segunbaghicha to Shahbagh is a testament to Prof. Md. Ibrahim’s commitment and devotion.
He was a superb doctor. He truly displayed humility for his patients. He liked to say, “I am grateful to you for the opportunity you have given me to serve you,” to even his most humble patients. His treatment of his patients, especially the impoverished and in pain ones, was characterized by a deep sense of empathy and compassion.
He always placed more emphasis on practice than precept as a teacher, emphasizing punctuality, discipline, obligation, and commitment. Prof. Ibrahim helped his students develop the habits of deduction thinking, inquiry, and commitment to clinical methods. He inspired confidence and faith in them.
From 1969 to 1971, Prof. Ibrahim served as the head of both the Pakistan National Science Council and the Pakistan Medical Research Council. He also held the positions of President of the Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons, President of the Bangladesh Association of Scientists and Scientific Professions, and Vice-President of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. In the middle of the 1970s, he served as Minister (Adviser) for the Ministry of Health and Population Control. He was honored by the Bangladeshi government in 1984 when a physician was named the country’s first National Professor.
Prof. Ibrahim devoted his entire life working to create these human resources because he firmly felt that an institution accomplishes its aim and greatness not through bricks and mortar, nor through machinery, nor through metals.
Ibrahim Medical College is a separate institution run by The Diabetic Association of Bangladesh that is devoted to Prof. Ibrahim’s memory and committed to creating world-class human resources for health.
