DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY
Microbiology is the branch of science dealing with microorganisms. It is one of the most relevant, dynamic and exciting disciplines in the biological sciences. Microbiology has become an umbrella term that encompasses many sub-disciplines or fields of study, including bacteriology (the study of bacteria), mycology (the study of fungi), parasitology (the study of parasites) and virology (the study of viruses).
In any university, public or private, this is one of the topmost disciplines for which best students fight for admission.
Department of Microbiology at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences is currently offering a BS degree in Microbiology and Immunology and MS degree in Microbiology.
BS (Hons) is a four-year degree course consisting of 160 credits wherein each subjects adequate practical is done along with theoretical classes.
MS degree course consists of 80 credits for two years. In MS course, one-year this is compulsory for each student which is done during the 2nd year along with other subjects. Each student also has to perform the practical classes in each subject. There is no division of thesis group and non-thesis group.
The course aims to give the basic and detailed knowledge and understanding of important aspects of microbiology as currently applied in industry, food, health, and medical sciences, in the environmental management, in biotechnology as well as in basic and primary research.
We are dedicated to providing quality education, through both teaching and research, necessary to meet the needs of this growing field.
The discipline of microbiology is diverse, and the job opportunities for microbiologists are enormous. One of our main goals is to prepare students for leadership roles as microbiologists in public and private laboratories, in industry, government agencies, health-related fields, environmental health, and university teaching and research at home as well as abroad.
The BUHS provides a very good environment for research works and research gate score of this university is 571 over 4 years. Average RG score per year is 142.75 which is one of the leading in this country.
