Department of English studies British, American, and global Anglophone literature from the Anglo-Saxon era to the present day, and imparts methods of critical reading and writing. In the department, the students receive a firm grounding in the history of literature in English and become proficient at the analysis and interpretation of texts and learn to express themselves in writing with precision, elegance, and persuasion.
The department aims at providing instruction and carrying out research in both traditional and current areas of English Studies. In addition to core English Literature and American Literature components, it encourages work in New Literatures in English, Comparative studies, Translation, Culture, Language Studies, and Pedagogy.
Moreover, Language courses in this department are designed to focus on the development of the students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as presentation skills in a way so that they will be able to express themselves in an exquisite way.

Admission Requirement
1. Candidates who have passed HSC or A level examinations in 2013, 2014 and 2015 are eligible to apply
2. SSC and HSC examination: Minimum GPA 3.00 (with additional subject) in HSC or equivalent examinations. The sum total of GPA in SSC and HSC should be minimum 6.0.
3. Candidates who have obtained A+ in all subjects in HSC and SSC examination are eligible for direct Admission.
4. Candidates who have obtained A+ in HSC and SSC examination will appear the Viva Voce Board only.
5. GCE O/A Level Examination: GCE (‘O’&‘A’ level or Equivalent) applicants: Minimum average grade point of 2.5 in GCE O-Level and GCE ALevel. However, the candidate must not have any F grade in any subject of both levels. The sum total of GPA in GCE A-Level and O-Level should be minimum 6.00.
