The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology initiated on 2001 at BSMRAU as the Department of Computer Science, Immediate after the initiation the department merge with the Department of Statistics and both department conducted teaching and research as a department of Statistics and Computer Science. Recently (2011) both the department separated as the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology. The department offers courses for the students of Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Ph.D. It involves in different fundamental and basic researches in the field of Information and Communication Technology for Agricultural Development, Geographic Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Remote Sensing (RS) etc.
