Greeting and Felicitation from Dept. of Animal Production & Management. Animal Production & Management is a pragmatic agricultural oriented science dealing with scientific animal care, management, processing and marketing of livestock and their products. Emergence of the profession dates back to recorded history, but beyond doubt lag before that of crop husbandry. As an education offering institute, the Faculty of Animal Science & Veterinary Medicine is unique in Bangladesh. Uniqueness of this faculty will be attributable in shouldering sole responsibility of both animal production and treatment education of the nation in this country. With a situation of having more than half a dozen veterinary faculty/College in the country offering only DVM degree and two faculty offering animal husbandry, combined animal science & veterinary medicine education is given only in Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Although animal husbandry teaching and research became a part of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University’s activities soon after the institute/ university was founded, it was not until 1938 that the Department of Animal Husbandry was established under the faculty of Agriculture. Until 2011 animal husbandry was a part of the Agriculture faculty. In the year of 2011, started a new faculty with combined degree namely faculty of Animal Science & Veterinary Medicine which absorbed the former Animal Husbandry Department to the new namely an important Department as Animal Production & Management which is also familiar as Animal Science/ Animal Husbandry followed by the Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam as the founder Chair. A total of 12 courses for B.Sc. Vet. Sci. & AH, 2 courses for B.Sc. Ag. (Hons), 2 courses for BBA (Agribusiness) and 1 course for MBA (Agribusiness) degrees are given by the Department of Animal Production & Management. Additionally, a compulsory provision for one semester long on and outreach campus hands-on training in the name of “internship” after completion of 9 course-semesters has been included to acquire field level exposure to the students. Expansion of field lab facilities are also in progress in the departments in order to facilitate fruitful research-based education as well as strengthening of on-campus Internship programme. The Vision of the department is to emerge into the most reputed and sought in research, animal production education and excellence in care and management. It also envisions and aims to educate leaders of livestock profession in patient-centered, science-driven, and team-based high value animal care. The Mission has been carved with a clear objective to surface into national leaders in the education and development of the next generation of livestock experts. It also aims to attract livestock professionals, teachers and researchers of eminence and to develop centers of excellence in all specialties, empower and support students and faculty to realize their passion for discovery, healing, health and life and to improve the lives of the animal and make a notable difference thereby contributing to the progress of this nation. We welcome, students both from country and abroad to the department/ faculty of excellence and wish them a successful tenure of learning where they will be molded to true knowledgeable citizens of tomorrow and into livestock experts of true value and ethics.
